Kenshin's biological daugher, who grew up in the relatively peaceful Meiji era. She and her older brother bickered constantly, so she attached herself to her father from a very young age. At thirteen, with her parents permission, Rumiko left to visit Europe, spending most of her time in England, and there met Yukishiro Enishi's son Phillip. Rumiko fell hard for him, and accepted his proposal when she was sixteen. The two returned to Japan together, only for Phillip to completely flip out when he saw how she interacted with Asaharu. Jealous and debateably half-crazy, Phillip attacked her, and scarred her. Rumiko went to Kyoto for a year after, where she gave birth to her son Kiyoshi, who she entrusted to her brother and his new wife, Himiko. Rumiko then returned home to attend Kenshin's funeral and take over the dojo from her mother. Though she desperately tried to appear uninterested, she became aware of a growing attraction in Asaharu. Finally, after six years of holding him off, she agreed to marry him.
