Only daughter of Elendil and his Noldorin wife, a princess of Gondor and Arnor. Met and fell for Thranduil of Greenwood when she was young and in SA 3430, when she turned 50, joined him in Greenwood . In TA 26, Gillin and Thranduil were married, and in TA 37, welcomed their first child into Arda, Legolas Greenleaf. Gillin suffered from a weak constitution, however, and spent two years recovering from the pregnancy and birth. Unfortunately, Gillin's relationship with her son never quite recovered; although Legolas loved her and respected her as his mother, there was little more to their relationship than that, especially with the added complication that Legolas believed himself the reason for his mother's health problems. In TA 60, Gillin bid goodbye to her son, having convinced her husband to let their son be educated outside of Greenwood . In TA 200, Gillin managed a second successful pregnancy, this time resulting in a daughter, Celebedhel. Gillin took her chance and doted on Celebedhel even with her ever failing strength, resulting in what might be by our standards a spoiled rich brat. In TA 400, Gillin happily welcomed back Legolas, along with his female companion. Gillin easily realized there was something going on between Legolas and Arëhin, and secretly helped them hide it, as her gift to her son. Gillin was right at the head of planning after the couple announced their engagement in TA 419, and convinced Thranduil that having Arëhin in the family wouldn't be as bad as he thought. Gillin was able to partially, at least in her mind, make up for the years missed with Legolas in taking care of her grandson, Cudin. Gillin enjoyed almost 950 years as reigning Queen of Mirkwood, before she fell to darkness along with the forest. Gillin was captured in the first months of the shadow that possessed Greenwood , and many lives were wasted in trying to retrieve her before her body was left as a warning to the remaining elves of Mirkwood. It was this action that made Thranduil move the kingdom into the safety of the stone walls in TA 1098.
